One of our goals is to support students in developing their ability for self-regulation. The curriculums chosen for this course are The Zones of Regulation, SuperFlex, and "How Does Your Engine Run?" Our self-regulation course will help student identify and use tools to attain the right level of self-regulation for any given situation, although we primarily focus on the right level alertness for academic work. In the social thinking class, we work with students on understanding other's perspectives through social thinking, social situation mapping, and problem-solving skills.
We believe that all students can learn and enjoy math. We foster a growth mindset in mathematics which means helping students take risks, learn from mistakes, and stick with challenges. Students who adopt this mindset show more persistence and success in math. Teaching math through the big ideas helps students see patterns, make connections, and build lasting understanding. Our brains are wired to think visually about math so we use visual models helps students build deeper understanding, confidence, and flexible reasoning. We rely heavily on Jo Boaler's Mindset Mathematics in our math instruction.
